Virginia P. “Ginnie” Severns, 82, Kokomo, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 surrounded by her family, after suffering a massive stroke on Saturday evening in Kokomo.  She was born March 30, 1931 in Kokomo, the daughter of Cecil and Emma (Percival) Pierce.  On October 1, 1950 she married E.P. Severns who survives.
Ginnie was a 1949 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended IUK from 1950-1951.  She was a homemaker and worked at Continental Steel while attending IUK.  She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and volunteering.  She was past president of the Cheer Guild.  She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and participated in several Bible study groups. She was a member of the Symposium, where she was past president and a member of PEO, where she was past president.  One of her passions was that all of her grandchildren either have or are currently attending Culver Academies.
Ginnie loved spending time with her family at Lake Maxinkuckee, where she cherished decades of memories.  On Saturday afternoon, Ginnie told E.P. (while enjoying the view of the lake) how much she loved her home in Kokomo and her home in Culver.
Ginnie is survived by her husband of 62 years, E.P. Severns; children, E. Craig (Kristi) Severns of Kokomo, Timothy K. (Trish) Severns of Kokomo, Susan S. (Francis) Ellert of Culver; grandchildren, John C. McCullough III, Elizabeth Nicole “Nikki” Severns, Alexandra Marie “Ally” Severns, Elizabeth Ann “Betse” Ellert, Pierce Hollister Ellert, Francis Key “Fritz” Ellert,  Cabot Severns Ellert; brother, Robert (Christine “Tine”  ) Pierce; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Elizabeth Ann “Betse” McCullough; and sister, Norma Loman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 West Mulberry Street, with Rev. Brian Cook and Rev. Larry Newburg officiating.  Private entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends from Noon until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road. Virginia has been an amazingly gentle woman who has touched so many lives and lived such an example for others. She has been filled with the sweetest kindness for all. (And made the most amazing Red Velvet Waldorf cake I've ever had!)

E.P., I'll tell God the same thing I told you when I was a young child - "She's a good woman!" May the Lord bless you all during this difficult time as He receives her Home.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers,

My favorite aunt. I can hear her knowing chuckle and almost smoky voice, usually offering a bite to eat or a Coke. Loved my childhood summers at the cottage - partly because I had Ginnie as a second "Mom". Sending my love to EP, Craig, Tim and Susan - and the entire Severns/Ellert clan.

To E P and family: We are so sorry to hear about Ginnie. She was always such a sweet lady, and always had something positive to say. She had such a sweet smile. We had some time together recently, and caught up talking about our families. She said she was doing fine, so I was shocked to hear the news. You are in our prayers, and I know God will see you through this. She has left sweet memories with many of us. God bless you all.

E.P., Susan, Francis, & children and all family members:

I am so sorry to hear of Ginnie's passing. She was a grand lady. She was so gracious to all who knew her. She always had a smile when she entered the sanctuary here at Wesley U.M. Church. She always inquired how things were going when she spoke to me.
E.P., you and Ginnie always sat in front of me. She was so proud when the family was at the lake and came to church with you.
May God wrap HIS loving arms around you all, now, and in the weeks to come. There is a very "special angel" with her heavenly Father.

Prayers & Blessings,
Marlene Shoddy

I was so sorry to hear of Ginnie's passing. I will always remember her as gentle lady. I remember being at the old house over by Sis with all the kids and moms...I used to love that neighborhood...Sis, Bill & Gwen, John & Pam and EP and Ginnie. I will remember the times that old gang was at the house to play bridge. All my memories of Ginnie are warm and sweet. I am sure the angels are as happy to have her with them as you are sad to have her gone. I am sending my heartfelt love and sympathy to all of you!
