Donna E. Surbey, 79, Kokomo, passed away at 2:14 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at her home.  She was born July 17, 1938, in Howard County, the daughter of the late William J. & Florence Pearl (Hyde) Shanks.  

Donna was a homemaker who enjoyed babysitting for friends and family.  Her hobbies included singing, reading, and bowling on the local women’s league.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.  

Donna is survived by her children, Pam (Dave) Huffman, Karen (Jeff) Simmons, Sharon (Michael) Hafley, and Stephanie Youngman, all of Kokomo; son-in-law, Fred Scott, Kokomo; siblings, James (Sharon) Shanks, Ocala, FL, and Janine Harless, Kokomo; grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Surbey, Alyssa Simmons, Casey Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Ashleigh (Cyrus) Alexander, Sarah Hafley, Rachel Hafley, Alexia (Craig) Ridener, Autumn Rose, Elainie Poynter, Ashton Poynter, Skiler Youngman, Melissa (Fredrick) Wisehart, and Justin (Amanda) Collins, along with 12 great-grandchildren; the father of her children, Bruce Surbey; and best friend, Doris Richardson.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Kimberly Scott, and siblings, William Shanks, Robert Shanks, Larry Shanks, Shirley Hesselman, Marilyn Willits, and Doris Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday February 15, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Sexton officiating.  Burial will follow in Kendall Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm Wednesday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donna’s memory to the American Cancer Society.  Stout & Son Funeral Home in Russiaville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Donna's passing.
She was a very special friend to me and was always a
bright ray of sunshine in my life.
I was fortunate to be able to share many precious moments
with Donna and Kim.Thank you,God.
