Wanita Louise “Nita” Luttrell, 82, Kokomo, passed away peacefully at 12:12 am Saturday May 30, 2026, at home surrounded by family. She was born July 24, 1943, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Andrew & Thelma (Hall) Richards. She married James Main who preceded her in death in May of 1992. She then married William “Dwight” Luttrell on September 4, 1993, who also preceded her in death on March 25, 2023.
Nita graduated from Kokomo High School in 1961 and went on to build a career as the owner and operator of Nita’s Alter Ego, where she provided expert alterations with care and precision. Her skills as a seamstress were also highly valued during her years working for Mahers.
Nita’s vibrant personality extended far beyond her professional life. She was an avid bowler who loved participating in leagues and even took joy in teaching others how to bowl. Her sense of community was evident through her active memberships in the American Legion and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Nita spent many years performing as a clown for the Shriners Club. Nita also had a deep passion for We Care, where she enthusiastically decorated Christmas trees for their annual auction.
She was a member of Hobbs Christian Church. Her big heart and welcoming nature made everyone feel at home in her presence. Known for her humor and charm, Nita never met a stranger and had a knack for making people laugh. Whether it was through her playful flirtations or her radiant smile that lit up any room she entered.
Nita is survived by her daughter, Leslie Carson; grandchildren, Spencer Carson, Haleigh "Rian" (Alex) Wellman, Tyler (Kelsi) Carson, and Caitlyn Carson; great-grandchildren, Everleigh Rose, Samuel Wayne, Zephyr Onyx, and Rhys Layne; siblings, Sonnie (Gary) Kemper, Roberta Russell, and Larry (Pam) Richards; sisters-in-law, Ruby Luttrell and Marcy Luttrell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Nita’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bloom for their exceptional care and compassion during her final days.
