Teddy “Ted” Lee Tate, 93, of Kokomo, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. Ted was born on May 11, 1928, in Texico, IL, to the late Herbert and Verna (McKinney) Tate. On September 16, 1946, in Morganfield, KY, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Compton, who survives.
Ted was a 1946 graduate of Mount Vernon Township High School, where he met Dorothy. He worked various engineering/pattern making positions, until creating his own company, Tate Model & Engineering, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. Ted took pride in designing and creating various medical procedural equipment. Outside of work, you could find Ted tinkering in his barn or operating a piece of machinery on his farm. Ted was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Kokomo, and Gideons International.
In addition to his wife of 75 years, Ted is survived by his children, Timothy (Norma) Tate of Kokomo and Jacqueline “Jacki” (Robert) Harvey-Reum of South Bend; five grandchildren, Matthew (Kathleen) Harvey of Indianapolis, Troy (Leanna) Tate of Kokomo, Lisa (Charles) Novak of La Porte, Tina (Jason) Buch of Russiaville, and Michael (Cheryl) Harvey of Fishers; 12 great-grandchildren, Bretta (Alex), Madison, Elisabeth, Rebekah, Jackson, Weston, Rose, Anna, Cara, Brennan, Kate, and Brett; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ted was proceeded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Bradley, and Roger Tate.
A funeral celebrating his life, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Ned Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow at Barnett Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
