Susan “Susie” Ellen Maher, 85, of Kokomo, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 17, 1941, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late Harry Miller and Dorothy (Kollmar) Miller. On October 10, 1964, she married Michael “Mike” Maher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and he survives.
Susie was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School. She worked for the optometry office of Dr. Tom Burkhart and later devoted herself to her family, creating a home that was beautifully kept, yet always warm, inviting, and comfortable enough for everyone to come in, relax, and enjoy themselves. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Kokomo Country Club. She loved being a mom and grandmother, was a second mom to many of her children’s friends, and had a deep love for animals, especially the hummingbirds she faithfully fed each morning.
Throughout her life, and especially in her final days, Susie held tightly to her love, faith, sense of humor, and care for others. Right up until her passing, she shared memories, offered advice, and made her family laugh.
In addition to her husband, Mike, Susie is survived by her children, Patrick (Guliana) Maher and Matthew (Heather) Maher; grandchildren, Riley, Annika, Alexander, Michael, Emma, and John Maher, and Olivia Harris; and her sister, Julie Arnold.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Miller.
Susie will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the faith that guided her, and the laughter, comfort, and kindness she shared with all who knew her. Her family will carry forward the many joyful memories she leaves behind.
A private burial will take place in New London Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kokomo Humane Society; https://kokomohumane.org/donate/. Cremation has been entrusted to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
