Seymour “Cye” Zwirn, 100, Kokomo, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at Primrose of Kokomo. He was born August 18, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Peter and Rose (Kreisler) Zwirn. On December 26, 1947, he married Roberta “Bobbie” Zwirn, who preceded him in death on July 24, 2009.
Cye was a 1941 graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School. He then attended Colgate University, the University of North Carolina, Massachusetts State Teachers College, and Indiana Business College. Cye served in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator on the USS Midway from 1942-1947, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. In 1984, he retired as a manager of Systems and Procedures at Cabot International, now known as Haynes International, after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Fair Havens Alliance Church. He was the past president of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Youth for Christ, Christian Businessmen’s Committee, Kokomo Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army, where he served as a board member for many years. Cye was an avid golfer and gardener.
Cye was often heard to say, “I am a blessed man”.
Cye is survived by his children, Judith (Steve) Kellett of Noblesville, IN, John (Dorothy) Zwirn of Swayzee, IN, and Beth (Greg) Carter of Albany, IN; 8 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Roberta, Cye was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Molly, Sophie, Esther, Lillian, and Herb.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 1, 2023, at Fair Havens Christian Missionary Alliance, 1216 Co. Rd. 300 W., Russiaville, with Cye’s son, John Zwirn officiating. The service will begin with military honors provided by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 am until the start of the service on Friday, at the church. Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
