Rosie Mae Story Obituary

A resident at Legacy at Waterford Rosie Mae Story transitioned at 3:13 on June 10,2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo. Rosie aka “Mae-Mae” which she was known as by her nieces and nephews later in life was born on February 17, 1948, to the late Hardy M. and Earnestine (Edgeston) in Falkner, Mississippi. Her family moved to Kokomo in 1965.
Rosie was a 1968 graduate of Kokomo High School.  Rosie was passionate about helping others.  She worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years. Rosie previously employed at Americana Healthcare, St Joseph Hospital, Cuneo Press, PL Porter and private in-home care.  She was employed by Indiana Mentor as a Program Support Services Professional in the community with developmental and intellectual adults for sixteen years until a stroke on Nov. 25, 2014, prevented her from returning to work. 
Rosie enjoyed playing solitaire and shopping online. She did not allow Yolanda to interfere with her high score. She enjoyed going to the cruising, casino and cooking for her family. Her favorite vacations destinations were Las Vegas and San Diego. She was also a proud Boilermaker Mom.
She leaves behind daughters Yolanda M. Phillips, Kokomo and Chastity N. Story Indianapolis, grandson Braxton C. Phillips and wife Samantha J. Phillips, Noblesville, and great grandchildren Aureliana A. and Charles X. Phillips. Brothers Larry (Arnesta), Charles (Kim), and Travis Story. Sisters Mary Dickerson, Evelyn Story, and Mildred (Nate) Richardson, all of Kokomo. Special friends Ida Cohen, Phyllis Kile, Marva Trice and Joyce Wilgus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson Matthew I. Baker, brothers Murry T, William and Corey Story. Sisters Cora and Teri Story and Fostene Fox. Her beloved fur baby, Sophie passed away on May 13, 2026.
The family would like to a special Thank You to Legacy at Waterford Place and the Ascension St Vincent Kokomo Dr.’s and staff for the care and compassion given to Rosie and her family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 819 N. Apperson Way, Kokomo, with Pastor Edward S. Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 am until time of the service.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.shirleyandstout.com.
