Ronald "Ron" Dean Shepherd

Ronald “Ron” Dean Shepherd, 68, Russiaville, passed away on January 23, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born October 1, 1954, in Kokomo, the son to the late Wilbur Rex and Mildred Berniece (Carter) Shepherd. On May 25, 1973, he married Sherrill “Sherry” (Shuck) Shepherd in Russiaville, and she survives.

Ron was a 1973 graduate of Western High School. He worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and was the owner of Ag-Pro Fertilizer. On October 1, 2019, he retired from Western School Corporation after 20 years of service. Ron was an avid sports fan; rooting for his favorite teams, the Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees, I.U. basketball; and most importantly, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He loved attending Nebraska football games and any college football tailgates. Ron enjoyed gardening, and spending time by the pool with his family.

In addition to his wife Sherry, Ron is survived by his 5 children, Shelly Shepherd, Lindsay Fernandez, Cami Jo (Nolan) Butler, Dean (Ashley) Shepherd, and Bart (Kristen) Shepherd; grandchildren, Caroline and Lily Long, Carter and Garrett Fernandez, Beau and Shepherd Butler, and Brexton, Bristol, and Hudson Shepherd; sister, Ann Haines; and brother, Allen Shepherd.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Rex Shepherd; and granddaughter, Sienna Rome Butler.

A funeral service will take place at 12 pm Monday, January 30, 2023, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Jason Grant officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1 pm to 5 pm Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research.
