Roberta Louise Whiteman, 92, Greentown, passed away at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. She was born December 24, 1932, in Kokomo to Gerald and Elpha (Abney) Suter. On July 15, 1953, she married Ralph Whiteman who preceded her in death on December 4, 2001.
Roberta was a 1951 Eastern High School graduate being one of the students of that time who attended both Greentown High School and Eastern, after consolidation. She worked for Delco Electronics, retiring after 30 years of service. Roberta enjoyed oil and watercolor painting and crocheting and was a member of the Delco Hobby Club. Her other memberships included UAW Local 292, Euchre Club, and Mount Zion Wesleyan Church, where she was active in several areas. She also volunteered at Community Howard and the Women’s Center until her health no longer allowed.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicky (Kim) Lawson, Karen (Bill) Nester, and Lisa Corder; grandchildren, Darr (Kimberly) Lawson, Courtney Lawson, Ashley Hummer, Samantha (Derek) Jahnke, Shelby Nester, Amanda Corder, and Natalie Corder; great-grandchildren, Pandora Starns, Wyatt Lawson, Reid Lawson, Rylee Lawson, Jesse Jauregui, Emmeline Jahnke, Lillian Jahnke, and Henry Jahnke; several nieces & nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, James Lee Suter and Gerald Frank Suter; sisters, Mary Gang and Harriet Godwin; son, Richard Vernon Whiteman; and a daughter, Cindy Lou Whiteman.
Funeral services celebrating Roberta’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025, at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 East Main Street, Greentown, with Steve Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
