Robert (Bob) William Sumpter, 89, of Greentown, passed away at 10:21 pm, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown. He was born on May 11, 1936, the son of James Walter and Hazel Marie (Webb) Sumpter. On February 2, 1958, he married Susann Marie Simpson at Jerome Christian Church.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of Kokomo High School. He worked as a bread delivery man for Omar, Dietzen and Lewis Brothers Bakery for 34 years and a courier for First Farmers Bank for 15 years. Bob was an avid sports fan who liked to watch his sons and grandkids play sports. He coached his kids in baseball and basketball. Bob enjoyed watching the Pacers, Colts, and Cubs as well. He was a loyal supporter of the Eastern High School Comets. He was a member of Jerome Christian Church and former school board member at Taylor High School.
Along with his wife, Susann Sumpter, he is survived by his children, Gregory (Melody) Sumpter and Michael (Rhonda) Sumpter; grandchildren, Jeremy (Angela) Sumpter, Brandon Sumpter, Nathanael (Marina) Sumpter, Matthew (Lacie) Sumpter, and Seth Sumpter; great-grandchildren, Bryce Sumpter, Weston Sumpter, Abigail Swenson, Sophia Sumpter, Lily Sumpter, Remington Sumpter, and Hattie Sumpter; brothers-in-law, Robert Eikenberry and Ronald (Jean) Simpson; and daughter-in-law, Tina Hall.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Sumpter; brothers, Lewis Sumpter and James Sumpter; sisters, Maryanne Sumpter, Barbara Shearer, and Carolyn Eikenberry; son, Gerald Sumpter; and grandson Sean Sumpter.
A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 11 am, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 County Rd E. 100 S. Greentown, with Pastor David Stokes officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 pm to 7 pm, Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the church.
