Richard was born January 19, 1940, in Kokomo, to Troy L. and Bernice H. (Akins) Calloway. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1959 and attended Ivy Tech Community College. He worked as an electrician for Haynes Stellite for 32 years and at Chrysler for sixteen years. She worked as an accountant at Haynes Stellite and after retirement was a volunteer and guiding force at the Nearly New Store. She enjoyed music and singing and was a member of the church choir.

Richard and Elaine were married, in Gouglersville, Pennsylvania, on May 30, 1987, and cherished the 36 years they had together. They loved spending time with their family, especially with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they enjoyed going fishing and boating together. They were members of First Congregational Christian Church in Kokomo.
