Richard Joseph "Dick" Crume Obituary

Richard Joseph “Dick” Crume, 81, Kokomo, passed away peacefully at 3:13 pm Friday July 3, 2026, at Brickyard Healthcare in Kokomo. He was born on March 6, 1945, in Burlington, Indiana, the son of the late Kenneth & Marjori (Milburn) Crume.  On June 4, 1967, in Greentown, he married Janis Hensler who survives.  

Dick graduated from Carroll High School in 1963 after attending Burlington High School. His career was as diverse as it was industrious. He retired in 2011 as a Territory Salesman for Power Equipment but had also worked with UPS during high school and held positions at John Deere in Kokomo, Mann Chevrolet, Chrysler Corp., Wiese Olds Cadillac in Logansport, Bieghler 98 Station, Crume’s Garage, Tilton Equipment Co., and Kar Products. His work ethic and versatility were evident throughout his professional journey.

Dick found joy in gardening, fishing, restoring tractors, especially Allis Chalmers models, and grilling out during family gatherings. He was an avid NASCAR fan with a particular admiration for Dale Earnhardt Sr. Dick cherished spending time in Florida and was known for his playful spirit as a jokester and his fondness for passing out hard candies to those around him.

Dick’s faith played an important role in his life. He was a member of both the Burlington Church of Christ and Faith Church of Christ. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge #111 for an impressive 53 years.

Along with his beloved wife, Janis Crume, Dick is also survived by his sons, Mathew Crume and Jeremy (Kelli) Crume; brother, Gary Crume; grandchildren, Hayden (Kaydee) Crume, Madison Crume (Austin Gish), Garrett Crume, and Grady Crume; great-grandchildren, Wylder Crume, Waylon Crume, and Wyatt Crume; sister-in-law, Lynn (Tom) Pratt; aunt, Roberta Elliott; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane Crume; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Gene) Clouser, Sharon (Jim) Gritton, Joyce (Larry) Myer, Brenda Crume; and brother-in-law, Larry (Barbara) Hensler.

A Masonic Service will be held at Noon on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Burlington Church of Christ, 312 Michigan Road, Burlington A memorial service will follow with Pastor Dave Osborne officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 am until time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s memory to Burlington Church of Christ.  Stout & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.
