Philip Phillips Obituary

Philip Wayne “Egg Man” Phillips, 91, Kokomo, passed away at 10:10 pm Monday, November 4, 2019, at Howard Regional Health in Kokomo.  He was born October 18, 1928, in New London, the son of the late Roy J. & Mabel (Kenworthy) Phillips.  On November 26, 1950, at Trinity Methodist Church in Kokomo, he married Loretta L. Phillips who preceded him in death on March 19, 2013.  He then married Mary E. (Suter) Gang on August 10, 2019, at First Friends Meeting, who survives.

Philip served with the United States Army from 1950-1952 attaining the rank of Sgt.  He was a retired farmer and egg man.  Philip owned and operated Egg Palace of Peru where he tended over 30,000 chickens.  He was also co-owner of 3 & 3 Quilting.  Philip was a member of First Friends Meeting House, a 50 year member of the Bunker Hill/Peru Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge.  He was also a member of UAW Hobby Club, which is where he met his wife Mary. 

Along with his wife Mary, Philip is survived by his daughters, Diane L. (Ed) Cleek, Crestview, Florida, and Judy K. (Terry) Copeland, Akron, Indiana; step-children, Susan (Greg) Lassiter, Kathy (Buck) Kelley, Jerry (Candy) Gang, and Bobby Gang; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and step-sister, Patricia Cottrell, Kokomo.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta; daughter, Suzie “Q” Phillips; son, Gary W. Phillips; and brother, William Phillips.

A Masonic service will start at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, followed by the funeral service, with Jonathan Newton officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12-1 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Philip’s memory to First Friends Meeting.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
