Patty Mae (Slater) Carlson

Patty Mae Carlson, 91, Cedar Springs, went to be with the Lord at 1:15 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at home.  She was born March 20, 1928, in Paris Township, Kent County, Michigan, to Thomas and Jennie M. (Patterson) Slater.  On March 26, 1946, she married Robert William Carlson, at Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids.

Patty Mae was a 1945 graduate of Caledonia High School where she was a cheerleader for four years and an honor student.  She worked as a secretary and office manager, retiring as owner/operator of a water softening company.  She was a Godly woman and a prayer warrior; a member for many years of Oakfield Baptist Church where she served as church organist.

Survivors include sons, The Rev. Steven R. (Linda) Carlson, Mukwonago, Wisconsin, and Paul J. (Helen) Carlson, Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Chaplain Marilyn B. (Carl) McMullen, Kokomo, Indiana; twelve grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janice Slater; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Robert W. Carlson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith (Vernon) Marihugh and Thelma (Robert) Shears; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmo (Louise) Slater, Raymond (Sophie) Slater and Russell Slater; and nephews, Tim Shears and Royce Slater.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2020, at Oakfield Baptist Church, 11128 14 Mile Rd., Rockford, Michigan, with Pastor Steven R. Carlson officiating.  Burial will follow at Blythefield Memory Gardens.  Friends may call upon the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Oakfield Baptist Church, Rockford, Tabernacle Baptist Church, West Alles, Wisconsin, or First Baptist Church, Greenville, Michigan.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Kokomo, Indiana.
