Mona Ione Downhour

Mona Ione Downhour, 94, of Flora, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the home of her daughter. Mona was born January 7, 1932 in Forest, IN to the late Ross and Edith (Fletcher) Jordan. 

Mona was treasured by her family and friends for her wonderful sense of humor and her love of adventure. A 1949 graduate of Cutler High School, she was a balloon decorator for over 20 years, decorating several events, including many at Purdue University. She also worked for the Indiana State Board of Health, retiring after 20 years of service. Mona was a member of Deer Creek Presbyterian Church and the Indiana Balloon Network. She enjoyed many hobbies but reading was her favorite pastime.

She was previously married to her children’s father, Richard Porter. She then married Richard Downhour, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2006.

Mona was the beloved mother of Susan Craig, Denise (Mark) Good, and Joy (Mark) Depoy. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step-children, Debra Beckner, Patricia Jordan, Albert Downhour, and David Downhour; and 10 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ross Jordan and Lee Jordan, and by her stepson, Gary Downhour.

A funeral service celebrating Mona’s life will take place at 1 pm Monday, May 11, 2026, at Deer Creek Presbyterian Church, 4450 IN-29, Camden, IN 46917, with Pastor Mark Munson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church from 11 am until the start of the service. Stout & Son Funeral Home-Neptune Chapel, have been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mona’s memory.
