Mary Alice Schrock Obituary

Mary Alice Schrock, 82, Kokomo, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at her home.  She was born December 29, 1943, in Peru, Indiana, the daughter of Roman J. & Katie (Hochstedler) Yoder.

Mary Alice's legacy is one of hard work, generosity, and connection. For over thirty years she cleaned houses for some of the most prominent families in Kokomo, often becoming like another member of the family. She also made some of the best noodles and angel food cake around, selling them informally to employers and their friends. After physical limitations prevented her from cleaning houses, she reinforced longtime friendships among the Amish community by providing transportation services for them, even running the “school bus” for a number of years. She was renowned for being punctual and caring, striking up conversations with her passengers, young or old.

Travel had long been a hobby for her, going with her family on long road trips around the US. She had been to every state in the US except for Hawaii, many multiple times. She collected anything to do with lighthouses, finding them a comforting and powerful symbol of God's guidance and protection.

Family was important to Mary Alice, and she cared for both her mother and grandmother in their later years. She knew the family genealogy well and spent hours researching it. One of her greatest joys in later life were her six grandchildren, who fondly called her "Mimmi."

She was an active member of Rich Valley Mennonite Church for over 30 years. Though not widely known, she was very generous with her support of various ministries and missionaries in the community and beyond.

Mary Alice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Danielle & Brian West, and her six grandchildren, Miriam West, Evan West, Katie West, Asher West, Libby West and Josiah West.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Bethany School, 5169 N. 600 East, Kokomo.  Burial will follow on the family farm at Hochstedler Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with family from 2:30 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the school.  Hasler & Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
