Mary Nelson Obituary

Mary Jane Miller Altic Nelson, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 7:05 am Thursday, November 28, 2019, at Kokomo Place.  She was born June 18, 1930, in Forest, Indiana, the daughter of the late William & Ethel (Walker) Miller.  On April 1, 1950, she married Robert Altic who preceded her in death April 14, 1986.  She then married William Nelson on July 28, 1990, who also preceded her in death on May 28, 2007.

Mary was a 1948 graduate of Forest High School.  She retired in 1983 from Delco Electronics after 30 years of service, and was a member of UAW Local #292.  Mary attended Alto United Methodist Church and Calvary Baptist Church.  She loved spending time with her family, playing cards, and traveling.  Mary also enjoyed yard work, having mowed her own yard up into her 80’s, and walking with her neighbor, Pat. 

Mary is survived by her daughter, Janet (Greg) Wall; granddaughters, Adriene (Scott) Riggle, Kathryn Wall (Billy Cox); great-granddaughters, Emily Riggle, Gretchen Riggle, Eanca Canameti, and Gadea Lopez; and brother, Ted (Janet) Miller.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and brothers, Cleon Miller, Max Miller, and Donal Miller.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Kokomo Place and Southern Care Hospice for the love and compassion shown to Mary and her family. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday December 3, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Sexton officiating.  Burial will follow in Middlefork Cemetery at 2:00 pm.  Friends are invited to visit with family from 4-7 pm Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Calvary Baptist Church.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
