Mark D. Shallenberger

Mark D. Shallenberger, 75, Kokomo, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 5:38 pm on Friday, November 10, 2023.  He was born on July 14, 1948, to the late Dwight Wilmer and Sharlot (Stanley) Shallenberger.  On February 14, 2017 he married the love of his life, Rose M. (Roberts) Costa, and she survives. 

Mark was a 1966 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University - Kokomo.  He joined the United States Navy from 1966-1969, where he was a Navy Seal & Frogman.  He served his country during the Vietnam War.  During his service he volunteered for underwater demolition duty. After the war, Mark worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 20 years of service.   Mark also worked as an electrician, and tree trimmer.  He loved to talk and have conversations. He was a Christian who professed his faith and was very patriotic. 

Along with his wife, Rose, Mark is survived by his sons, Matthew (Shannon) Shallenberger, Scott (Tabitha) Shallenberger, and Steve (Latisha) Shallenberger; daughters, Christy Shallenberger, and Susan (Jay) Shallenberger; stepdaughter, Renae (Troy) Killian; dear friends, Rusty Ferguson and Pastor John Tice; brother, Gerald Shallenberger; sister, Linda Shallenberger and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger, and Jerry Shallenberger.

A graveside service will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Albright Cemetery, Kokomo, IN. with military honors provided by the United States Navy and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help assist the family with final arrangements.
