Mark Gibson Obituary

Mark Allen Gibson, 62, Greentown, passed away at 9:58 am Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo.  He was born July 31, 1957, in Kokomo, the son of Mitchell Gibson and Marilyn (Sutherland) Forkner.  On April 9, 1977, at Antioch Christian Church, he married Jackie Kanable who survives. 

Mark was a 1976 graduate of Haworth High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College.  He retired from General Motors after 27 years of service.  Mark then worked for Delphi Electronics as a pipe fitter.  He was a member of UAW Local #292, and had attended Carpenters House Church.  He loved his grandchildren, being outdoors and fishing with his family. Mark was an avid Notre Dame and Indiana University basketball fan.  He also loved to coach, especially for Eastern baseball and basketball.

Along with his wife Jackie, Mark is survived by his father, Mitchell (Susan) Gibson; sons, Michael (Brandi) Gibson, and Matthew (Skye Hughes) Gibson; siblings, Jeff (Madeline) Forkner, Tammy (Jimmy) Cummings, April (Steve) Osborne, Julie McMaster, Crystal (Blake) Fessnden, and Todd Gibson; grandchildren, Baylor, Reece, and Blair.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Forkner; daughter, Heather; brother, Michael (Becky) Gibson; and brother-in-law, Mac McMaster.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Paul Sutherland officiating.  Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to the Jim “Moose” Carden Fishing Clinic.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
