Leon Merrell Hawkins

Leon Merrell Hawkins, 74, Kokomo, passed away at 8:45 am Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at his home.  He was born July 30, 1945, in Marion, the son of Edward Carl & Goldia Mae (Shilling) Hawkins.  On December 24, 1971, he married Sharon Kay Hancock who preceded him in death January 19, 1993. 

Leon retired in 2009 after 47 years as a telephone contractor.  He loved to play Aggravation, and was a huge NASCAR fan.  He also enjoyed talking about the old days and spending time with family.  

Leon is survived by his children, Brenda Kay (Jennifer) Hawkins, and Leon C. Hawkins; grandchildren, Zachary L. Hawkins, Ethan J. Hawkins, and Grace E. Hawkins; siblings, Jack Hawkins, Herman Hawkins, and Bob Hawkins, along with several nieces, nephews, fur-babies, and grand-fur-babies. 

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and brothers, George Hawkins, and Barney Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, December 9, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Michael Alley officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1:30 pm Monday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
