Leanna "Grizz" Jean McCoy

Leanna “Grizz” Jean McCoy, 66, Twelve Mile, passed away at 7:08 am on December 24, 2025, at Northwoods Common.  She was born in Kokomo on June 8, 1959, to Richard Lee Horton and Nancy Lee (Karnes) Kindig.  On May 24, 2012, she married her best friend Russell “Rutt” McCoy, they spent 35 years together before his passing on October 23, 2016.

Leanna graduated from Haworth High School in 1977.  She absolutely loved her children, but most of all her grandchildren. She was a woman who was not afraid to speak her mind. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching game shows and Gunsmoke with her mom.

Leanna is survived by her mother, Nancy;  children, Heidi (Matthew) Dotterer, Jeffrey (Scott) Johnston, and Joshua McCoy; grandchildren, Raelynn “Love Bunny” Johnston, Warne Rowland, Covid “Covie” Dotterer, Amy McCoy, Clayton McCoy, and Heaven McCoy; brothers, Richard L. Horton, and Scott (Kathy) Horton; and many nieces & nephews she loved dearly; and a few good friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard; husband, Russell; grandson, William “Dink” Rowland; brother, John Horton; and favorite cousin, Michelle.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation.
