Kenneth Steffes Obituary

Kenneth Charles Steffes, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 12:55 am Monday, May 31, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo.  He was born June 18, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Charles & Evelyn (Bost) Steffes.  On July 8, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he married Nell S. McIntosh who preceded him in death in January of 2009.

Kenneth was a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.  He served as a pastor for several small county churches in the Midwest and Michigan for 54 years. He loved preaching, singing, and introducing people to his friend Jesus. Kenneth made several Gospel CD’s in Branson, Missouri, Michigan and the Midwest.

Kenneth was a family man and his family knew they were loved by his generous outpouring of Godly wisdom, a gentle hug, the occasional dance party, and prayer support. His generous heart did not stop with his own family, but extended to the hungry, homeless, and underprivileged children. He started a food pantry in Michigan and purchased the food himself. It was not uncommon to find him mentoring young people when seeking their first job, trying to purchase their first car, or contemplating life's next step.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Evelyn (Steven) Sherwood and Ken (Michelle) Steffes; grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Sherwood, Stephanie (Nate) Young, Chris (Caitlin) Steffes, Zach (Kennedy) Steffes, Michaela Steffes and Jake Steffes; great-grandchildren, Josiah Sherwood, Abigail Sherwood, Isabella Sherwood, Isaiah Sherwood, Aiden Young, Rena Young, Eleora Young, Samuel Young, Liam Steffes, Cade Steffes and Luna Steffes.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nell; and siblings, Howard, Ronnie, Roger and Jerry Steffes.

A memorial service will be held at Noon Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Fairview Baptist Church, 2108 E. Vaile Ave., Kokomo, with Pastor Steve Sherwood and Evelyn Sherwood officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 am until time of service on Saturday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenneth’s memory to God’s Garage, care of Crossroads Community Church, 4254 S. 00 EW, Kokomo, IN 46902.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
