Joyce Ellen (Walker) King, 83 years old, of Kokomo, passed away 1:47 am Monday April 20, 2026, at her home. She was born in Kokomo, IN, on December 13, 1942, the daughter of the late Glenwood Walker and Mary Catherine (Utterback) Phillips.
Joyce attended Southport High School nearly her whole life and graduated from Howe High School. She retired from General Motors in 1999 as a stock chaser and buyer after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, she worked as a caregiver in the Indianapolis area. She had a good sense of humor and easily made friends. Her favorite hobbies were playing cards, landscaping, gardening, and shopping from Amazon. She adored her pet cats. She had a fascination and collection of ceramic frogs. She formerly attended Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Shelley (David) Butts, Greg King, Kim (Danny) Taylor; grandchildren, Karlie (Sergio Rios) Pell, Chris King, Shane (Eria) Pell, Hannah (Rayonte Bell) King, Kaci Taylor, Tori (John Geyer) Bogue, Shelby (Ben) Kline, Shawnee (Zach Hunley) Butts, Jessie (Cole) Meeks; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronnie (Lorna) Walker, John (Denise) Coulson, Marilynn Jackson, Mark Owens; cousins, Connie Campbell, Cheryl French, David (Loretta) Sommers, Cindy (Alan) Moss, Debby (Larry) Harmon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; very good friend, Gary Strebin; cousin, Sandy Smith; grandmother, Sylvia Utterback; and grandchildren, Blake Taylor and Kain Strong.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 am to Noon, Friday April 24, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902. A funeral service celebrating Joyce’s life will begin at Noon on Friday at the funeral home. A link will be available on Joyce’s obituary page to view the funeral live Friday at Noon. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Joyce’s memory to Shirley & Stout Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
