Joyce Ann Powell, 68, of Peru, passed away 11:45 am Thursday, May 12, 2022, at North Woods Village in Kokomo. She was born in Kokomo on August 25, 1953, the daughter of the late Harold and Genevieve (Kanable) Huffer. She married Tony K. Darnell and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1995. On September 6, 2003, she married Terry Powell, and he survives.
Joyce was a 1971 graduate of Clinton Central High School. She owned and operated a floral shoppe in Russiaville named Country Elegance. Joyce also co-owned Hoops sports bar and restaurant in Frankfort. She was a member of Main Street Christian Church, former member of Moose Lodge, and former member of the Eagles. Joyce prioritized family time that she spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Joyce shared lunch with her great friend and cousin, Judi Colvin, every Friday. She adored all her pet dogs. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, landscaping, and mowing. She appreciated traveling, especially to Florida or Gatlinburg, TN. Joyce assisted at 4-H as a leader. As a young girl, Joyce had a horse named Strawberry that she showed and barrel raced.
In addition to her husband Terry, she is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Tyler) Sceggell; stepdaughters, Laura Lynn Powell, Sarah Louise (Dustin) Smith; sister, Phyllis Lowery; grandchildren, Jada Sceggell, Lucas Sceggell, Reggie Reed, Anthony Smith, Brenton Smith; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law, Troy Lowery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 pm to 7 pm Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the funeral home, with Pastor Ryan Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Russiaville Cemetery.
