Joseph "Joe" Harold Coffin Obituary

Joseph “Joe” Harold Coffin, 79, of Kokomo, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent-86th Street in Indianapolis. He was born March 3, 1947, the son of Harold and Claudia (Pratt) Coffin. On August 21, 1965, he married Hazel Vandiver at First Salem Baptist Church, and she survives.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of Windfall High School and graduated with an associate’s degree from New Tribes Bible Institute. He worked in ministry for 50 years and worked in skilled trades tool & dye at Chrysler for 29 years. Joe was a member of Upper Deer Creek and has also attended South Creek Church of God. He was a pastor of Upper Deer Creek for over 10 years. He pastored at Antioch Christian Church in Swayzee and at Windfall Church of the Brethren. Joe grew up farming, that was what he was passionate about. Joe enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. If he wasn’t doing something for the church, he was always with his family. Joe also enjoyed spending time with his loyal companions, Ned and Fred.

Along with his wife of 60 years, Joe is survived by his daughter, Tonya (Scott) Prifogle; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Archer, Seth Sorrell, Erin (Miguel) Fernandez, Luke Monts, Eric (Sara) Prifogle, Jodi (Tristan) Aleshire-Claypool, and Alex (fiancé Jen) Aleshire; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim (Glenda) Coffin, Mark (Ferril) Coffin, Connie (Dave) O’Neal, and Mike (Chris) Coffin.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Jody Coffin, Angela Monts, and Tamatha Sorrell; grandson, Colton Prifogle; and siblings, Sandy Brown and Sue Dunham.

A funeral service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Upper Deer Creek Church, 5019 E Co Rd 1400 S, Galveston, IN 46932, with Aaron Perry and Mark Davis officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery in Windfall to follow. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the church.
