Joseph Renie Obituary

Joseph William Renie, 71, a former resident of Sharpsville, died at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 16th 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was born April 14th, 1950 in Kokomo, Indiana to Joseph C. Renie and Dorothy L. (Ford) Renie.

Joe attended St. Joan of Arc School and Sharpsville High School.  He graduated in 1972 from Purdue University.  He spent 35 years in the construction industry specializing in cabinetry and architectural millwork.  Joe worked for Myer’s Cabinets in Whitestown, Indiana, for the past 26 years. 

Family and friends were first and foremost for Joe followed by his love of sports.  A lifelong athlete, Joe played baseball and rugby at Purdue University followed by many years playing for the Indy Reds Rugby Club.  In later years, Joe became an avid golfer traveling to various courses throughout the country with close friends.  

Surviving is: one daughter, Kelly E. Renie, Oakland, California; one son, Joseph W. Renie and wife Ashley, Union, Kentucky; two grandsons, Joseph Camden Renie and Cayden Knox Renie; three sisters, Martha (Tom) Welch, Avon, Indiana, Frances (Jeff) Maryanski, Carmel, Indiana and Margaret (Joe) Amo, Belfair, Washington; two nieces Anne (Chris) Young, Westfield, Indiana and Maureen Maryanski, Bloomington, Indiana; one nephew John Amo, Oakland, California; two great-nephews Theo Young and Jamie Young.  In addition, he is survived by four aunts, Jeanette Prather, Greentown, Indiana; Mary Katherine (Paul) Rennaker, Kokomo, Indiana; Edith Vent Kokomo, Indiana; and Shirley Ann (Norman) Stockberger, Carmel, Indiana and numerous cousins.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Neuro ICU unit at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for the loving care provided to Joseph and his family during his illness.

In Indianapolis, visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm  November 22nd, 2021, at Shirley Brothers Mortuary, 9900 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana. 

In Kokomo, funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on November 23rd, 2021 at Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene located at 2734 S. Washington St. Kokomo, Indiana with  Reverend Doug Slack officiating. .  Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Memory Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 am until service time.

Memorial contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the Purdue Men’s Rugby Club, Indianapolis Humane Society and the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation with envelopes available at the service.   Shirley & Stout Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
