John "Johnny" Taylor Gillem

John “Johnny” Taylor Gillem, 85, Kokomo, passed away at 8:30 am on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Community Howard Regional Health, Kokomo.  He was born on March 23, 1940, to the late John and Nellie (Durham) Gillem.  On July 1, 1961, in Kokomo, he married Marianne Bassett, and she survives. 

Johnny graduated from Kokomo High School in 1959 and attended Ball State University. He worked for Leggett & Platt as a Sales Representative for 32 years before retiring.  He enjoyed watching football and basketball and playing golf. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Pacers, and Fever.  Johnny’s greatest love however was his family. 

Along with his wife, Marianne, Johnny is survived by his daughter, Lori (Dale) Homenick; sons, John (Melissa) Gillem, and Michael (Cara) Gillem; grandchildren, Taylor, Shelby, Jenna, Parker, Hailey, John, Grant, Charlotte, and Claudia; great grandchild, Trigg; siblings, Elizabeth Fulk, Barbara Langley, Carolyn Boothby, Donna Stevenson, and Russell Gillem.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ronnie Gillem, Billy Gillem, Marylou Dunlap, Imogene Sanders, and Judy Hayes.

A Funeral service celebrating Johnny’s life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.  Friends may visit the family from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
