John Marcus Hart, Jr., 83, of Kokomo, passed away 9:05 am Friday June 3, 2022, at Northwoods Village in Kokomo. He was born at home in Anderson on December 29, 1938, the son of the late John Marcus Hart, Sr. and HuWeen Veleta Zellar Hart. On June 11, 1959, he married Dorothy A. Hill at Park Place Church of God in Anderson.
John was a 1957 graduate of Anderson High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Valparaiso Technical Institute. He worked at Delco Electronics for 28 years and retired as a senior project engineer and supervisor. He was awarded several U.S. patents for his work. John exemplified loyalty in all areas of his life, but especially to his family and his church home. He was a member of South Creek Church of God for over 50 years and served as musician, usher, elder, treasurer, and worship leader. He served as chairman of the building committee and helped design the current church. John was a talented trombone and euphonium player. He played in the Kokomo Park Band for 49 years and the Delco Brass since 1974. He enjoyed playing basketball (he had a wicked hook shot), softball, and table tennis in his church and Delco leagues.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Terri (Dana) Hofstrom, Lake Wales, FL, Becky (Alan) Archibald, Indianapolis, John Gilbert Hart, Conifer, CO, Melody (Scott Schrecker) Hart, Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Kirk Hofstrom, Mark (Lauren) Hofstrom, Taylor Archibald, Delaney Archibald, John Rogers “JR” Hart, Grace Hart, Sammy Schrecker, Scotty Schrecker; siblings, Robert Hart, Jerry Hart, Diana Molinar, Vivian Hardacre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Phyllis Leedom, and infant twin granddaughters, Katie and Hannah Hart.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 pm to 3 pm Friday, June 10, 2022, at South Creek Church of God, 5937 South Park Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. The memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Friday at the church with Pastor Aaron Perry and Rev. Ronald Crump officiating.
