Joe Mitchell Obituary

 

Joe Dan Mitchell, 76, Russiaville, passed away at 3 pm Friday, June 3, 2022, at his home. He was born on November 10, 1945, in Kokomo, the son of the late David and Mildred (Holder) Mitchell. On May 17, 1986, he married Karen (Bass) Mitchell in Kokomo, and she survives.

Joe was a 1964 graduate of Kokomo High School. He graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with a degree in accounting. Joe served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1971, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later retired as an accountant after 40 years of service. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, hiking, and his trips to Tennessee.

In addition to his wife Karen, Joe is survived by his children, Matthew (Michelle) Mitchell, Jennifer (Jon) Marbach, and Melinda Jo (George) Meacham; grandchildren, Molly Mitchell, Mary Mitchell, Maria Mitchell, Courtney (Grant) Butler, Caleb Marbach, Brice Meacham, and Connor Joe Meacham; 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings, David Renny (Jane) Mitchell, Gary Mitchell, Sallie (Max) Kelly, and Joyce Morrow.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Kay Horsman.

A funeral service will be held at 12 pm Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Billy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 10 am until the start of the service Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans in Joe’s memory. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.
