JoAnn Lynore Browning, 83, of Kokomo, passed away 4:47 am Friday June 2, 2023, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. She was born in Chicago, IL, on March 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Maurice and Eleanore (Hanson) Black. On November 2, 1957, she married Ronald Browning, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2004.
JoAnn was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School. She attended Apollo Medical School in Phoenix, Arizona. She was employed at JC Penny as a salesclerk and at Dr. Janis’ office as a medical assistant. JoAnn was a talented singer and piano player. She was described as an amazing cook and baker. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Kokomo Civic Theatre and earned the lead role in a play. She was a history buff, enjoyed reading, and liked tracking genealogy.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Ronda (Robert) Draper, Jim (Dianna) Browning, Rebecca (Dave Bechtel) Browning; sister, Gayle (Mike Kistler) Black; grandchildren, Joel Umbaugh, Emily Umbaugh, Julie Umbaugh, Jessica Draper, Jonathan Browning, Ryan Bruno, Bryce Browning, Aaron Kriz, Alexandrea Kriz, Kieran Crowley; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Eleanore Black; husband, Ronald Browning; and brother, Dan Black.
