James Roscoe Jarrett, 90, of Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was born on October 22, 1935, in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas, the son of Arthur James and Lena Marie (Smith) Jarrett.
James graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1955. After high school James joined the United State Army. James owned J & J Trucking with his son Tony and retired after Fifty years. He loved watching baseball, sprint car racing, NASCAR racing, listening to music and watching his grandchildren play sports but most of all taking them to get ice cream after. James was a member of the American Legion Post 317, and Center Road Church of Christ.
James is survived by his children, Joanie (Joe) Kitts, Dana (Todd) Harvey, Debbie (Derek) Root; daughter-in-law, Lisa Jarrett; grandchildren, Ashley (Eric) Fleming, Kara (Mike) McKibben, Joey (Tiffany) Kitts, Britany (Neil) Mauck, Cassie Harvey, Cayleigh (Leland) Kinnett, Brandi Jarrett, Logan (Bailey) Jarrett, Bayden Root, and Berklyn (Ivan) Melendez; great grandchildren, Boden, Degan, and Cadmin Fleming, Marlee and Cole McKibben, Timothy White, Joseph Kitts, Rhyker and Rhemingtyn Mauck, Wyatt and Willow Kinnett, TJ and Briella Jarrett, and Lennon Melendez; sister, Verena (Jim) Gragg; sister-in-law, Bonnie Talley; brother-in-law, Arnold Cockrell; and mother of his children, Carol (Cockrell) Jackson.
Along with his parents, Arthur and Lena Jarrett, James was preceded in death by his son, Tony Jarrett; sisters, Oleta (Earl) Campbell and Veda (Dwight) Amos, brother, Monroe (Peggy) Jarrett; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating James’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Center Road Church of Christ 899 300 S. Kokomo, with Lynn Brust officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery with military honor provided by the Greentown American Legion and the United States Army. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Memorial contributions may be made in James’s name to the Greentown American Legion Post 317. Stout & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
