James Leland "Jim" Rubush Obituary

James Leland "Jim" Rubush, 92, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away at 7:44 am Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born March 24, 1933, in Kokomo, the son of the late Lyle Frank & Cecile Myrtle (Powell) Rubush.  On June 12, 1951, in Frankfort, IN, he married Mary Helen Quakenbush who preceded him in death on April 12, 2022.

Jim began his career with Cabot/Haynes International on July 18, 1951. Over the course of more than three decades of dedicated service, he rose to the position of welding supervisor before retiring on January 1, 1985.  Jim found joy in woodworking and was known for his craftsmanship. He had a deep love for Sprint car racing and traveled across the United States to attend races—a passion that brought him great excitement and adventure. Jim was an avid reader of Western novels and enjoyed word searches.  Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim’s grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who loved deeply.

Jim is survived by his children, William F. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Mary; daughter-in-law, Cathy Rubush; siblings, Helen Louise Rubush, Sara Catherine (Ned) McCormick, John Clifford “JC” Rubush, Dorothea Jean (John) Rollins, Robert Lyle (Marianna) Rubush, Mary Ida (Richard) Meiring, Cecile Elizabeth (Woody) Huffer, Alice Gertrude (Keith) Moon, Martha Jane (Larry) Avery, David (Chiquita) Paul, Carrol Lee (Robert) Saul, William Frank Rubush, and Audra Rae Moon.
