James “Jim” Calvin Newlin, 82, of Greentown, passed away 9:21 am Thursday July 10, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born in Russiaville, IN, on July 3, 1943, the son of the late Claude and Josephine (Helsey) Newlin. On April 8, 1967, he married Mary “Judy” Newlin, and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2024.
Jim was a graduate of Western High School in 1961. He was a social man who never knew a stranger. He worked construction in West Middleton helping build houses, West Middleton lumber yard, Indiana Bell for 30 years, Ameritech, and sbcglobal. He started as a lineman and ended up maintenance with Johnson Control working on heating and air for 8 years. After retirement he worked at Hasler – Stout Funeral Home for 12 years, serving countless families during their loved ones passing. His favorite hobbies were wood-working and fishing. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his son, Doug (Pam) Newlin; grandchildren, Allison Newlin, Kristen (Brandon) Chitwood; sister, Debbie (Donnie) Brooks; brother-in-law, Bruce (Liz) Cox; son-in-law, Matt Cottrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Josephine Newlin; wife, Judy Newlin; daughter, Erin Cottrell; granddaughter, Meghan Newlin; sister-in-law, Janice (Kay) Cox; and daughter-in-law, Kim Newlin.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from Noon to 2 pm Wednesday July 16, 2025, at Hasler – Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, IN 46936. A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will begin 2 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown. Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Hasler – Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
