James “Jim” Andrew Long, 71, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 12, 1954, the son of Roy and Margaret (Bolen) Long. On November 8, 1986, he married Penny Cheeke at Calvary Baptist Church in Kokomo, IN and she survives.
Jim was a 1972 graduate of Haworth High School and he attended Vincennes University. He worked at General Motors in the production line for 30 plus years until he retired in 2006. Jim also worked at Honda as a mechanic. He was a family-oriented man and adored his grandchildren. He was proud that he traveled to all 50 states. His favorite hobbies were fishing and when he used to ride his Harley motorcycle. Jim is a very caring and loving man. He was heavily involved in volunteering at the Kokomo Rescue Mission by serving meals, delivering Christmas boxes, and repairing toys. He was awarded the United Way Volunteer family of the year. Jim was known as the neighborhood bicycle repair man.
In addition to his wife, Penny, Jim is survived by his children, James (Ashleigh) Long Jr., Catrina (Robert) Adkinson; grandchildren, William Long, Leo Adkinson; siblings, Cathy Snodgrass, Alice (Steve) Ericson; and niece, Cristin (Dan) Johns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Long; and infant brother, Eddie.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Crossroads Community Church-Downtown Kokomo Campus, 116 N Main St, Kokomo, with Pastor Mike Fugua and Pastor Caleb Maple officiating. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 am until the time of the service on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the church.
