Jacqueline Sue Hossom, 87, passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Jacque was born to Joseph T. & Louise H. (Beck) Harris on August 3, 1935. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1953, and from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis in 1956 where she earned her degree and became a registered nurse. She was married to Michael Hossom from 1957 to 1977.
After graduation Jacque worked at Sunnyside T.B. Hospital in Marion County, Cameron Hospital in Angola and St. Joseph's Hospital, Kokomo. She put her nursing career on hold while she raised her 5 children. In 1980 she returned to work at Medical Surgical Associates (formerly Mendelson Clinic) and remained there until she retired in 2005. She also worked part time with Visiting Nurse Services.
Jacque was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and was a 40-year associate member of the Congregation of St. Joseph. She was very dedicated to her faith, practicing the corporal works of mercy throughout her life. She was an alumna of St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She was a dedicated nurse and the best example of a compassionate caregiver. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, and she lit up around her grand kids. She valued the friends she made throughout her life and made genuine efforts to stay in touch and kindle those relationships, spanning from childhood to the present. She enjoyed sending cards and letters and kept most of the cards that people sent to her. She loved planning parties and didn't want to miss any opportunity to be with family and friends, capturing every moment in pictures. Lots of pictures! She looked forward to spending holidays with her family, especially Christmas. She loved music (barbershop harmony had a special place in her heart), collecting butterflies, playing cards and board games; she was remarkable at playing Scrabble. She treasured Thursday nights, which were reserved for dinner and games with her family.
She is survived by her 5 children (each of whom was her favorite): Susan M. & Jim Markins of Kokomo, Jennifer L. & Danny Nelson of Greentown, Joseph M. & Terri Hossom of Shelbyville, Therese A. Rivers of Kokomo and Elizabeth “Betsy” A. & Bill Miller of Lapel; 10 grandchildren: Christopher Markins, Manelle & Kylie Hesler, Leanne & Chris Shipley, Chad & Leslie Ramey, Jenna & John Albert, Kaitlin Hossom & Andy Norman, Wesley & Tracy Miller, Mariah & Isaac, Natalie Miller and Joelle Miller & Michael Stewart; and 7 great-grandchildren: Avalea & J.P. Shipley, Wyatt & Oliver Hesler, David Ramey and Eli & Sammy Albert.
Also surviving are her 2 sisters and triplet brothers: Josephine L. Hahn of Muncie, Rosie M. Harris of Muncie, Anthony & Vicky Harris of Summerfield FL, Bernard Harris of Lawrenceville GA, Charles & Linda Harris of Noblesville, sister-in-law Marianne Harris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Louise Harris.
Viewing will be from 3-7 pm Sunday, September 11, 2022; a Nursing Honor Guard Salute and the Rosary to be offered at 7p.m. at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, Kokomo with Rev. Frs. Elliott Zak & Keith Hosey the celebrants.
