Irene (Midgett) Hartley

Irene Hartley, 81, Greentown, passed away at 2:05 am on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Community Howard Regional Health System.  She was born on January 11, 1941, to the late Earl Lee & Bonnie (Carter) Midgett. On April 8, 1967, in Alton, IL., she married James G. Hartley, Jr.  He preceded her in death January 1, 2022.

Irene attended Copper Basin High School, Copperhill, TN.  She had worked for twelve years at Delco Electronics and had worked as an aid at the Community Bible Christian School in Greentown. Jim and Irene wintered in Texas and traveled to many countries together. Irene was a devoted wife of 54 years and faithful mother who loved her family very much.  Irene was a faithful and committed Christian and a member of Christian Life Fellowship Church, who loved Jesus Christ unashamedly. She enjoyed working with stained glass, blanket weaving, crafts, being outdoors and gardening, she especially enjoyed her flowers. Irene greatly enjoyed a good cup of coffee and talking with family and friends, she loved listening to the birds and bird watching.    

Irene is survived by her children, Vickie (Gary) Hoover, Doug (Rebekah) Hartley, Dennis (Angie) Hartley, and Bill Hartley; grandchildren, Garrett (Holly) Hoover, Derek (Emily) Hoover, Joel Hoover, Dustin Carstensen, Brandon (Stephanie) Hartley, Amanda Hartley, Jessica (Nick) Hartley-Shaffer, Jeff (Lynn) Hartley, and Nick (Brittany) Hartley; 22 great grandchildren; sisters in law, Brenda (Vernon) Langer, Nancy Hartley; half-siblings; Ruby (Glenn) Dockery, Robert Bryson, Reba Hughes, Rita (Bill) Simpson, Ruth Welch, Rowena (Frank) Adams, Ray (Glenda) Bryson; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Benny Midgett, William Midgett, Arnie Midgett.

Irene’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the senior healthcare organizations and their caregivers who gave her such great care, enabling her to have the best quality of life in her own home during her extended illness.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday August 13, 2022, at Christian Life Fellowship, 1009 Holiday Drive, Greentown, IN. 46936, with Pastor Gary Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday at the church. Hasler & Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Life Fellowship or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
