Ida (Barnett) Carmack, 89, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 17, 2026. She was born on July 7, 1936, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Walter and Dora Alice (Owens) Barnett. She was the oldest of ten children.
In 1952, Ida moved to Kokomo, Indiana to start a new life as a childcare giver. She was married in 1955, and by 1962 had delivered three sons into the world. To make her three boys' lives better, Ida spent several years working in different manufacturing and service jobs. Her love of God and membership at her church gave her peace, serenity, and joy. She cherished all her close friends, who enriched her life. Gardening was a passion, as was preparing meals for those she loved, and sharing in the gift of music. She sang in church and delighted in listening to music, but above all, Ida treasured her family and the time she spent with them - especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas at the home she dearly loved!
She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her children, Steve Carmack, Ron (Debbie) Carmack, Alan (Tom McTamney) Carmack, and daughter-in-law, Judy Carmack; grandchildren, LeAnn (Jules) Myers, Valarie Jeanette (Jeff Ulery) Carmack, Kyle Carmack, Kayla (Alicia) Jackson, and step-granddaughter, Laura Crull; siblings, Rosetta Ogle, James Barnett, Betty Mullins, and Ben Barnett; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Junior Barnett, Ned Barnett, Bobby Barnett, Donny Barnett, and Stacey Barnett; her grandson, Jeremy Carmack, and many close friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd, Kokomo. A funeral service celebrating Ida’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
