Hermalene “Hermie” Jenkins, 88, of Greentown, passed away at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown. She was born December 11, 1936, in New Waverly, Indiana, to Daniel and Sylvia (Spurgeon) Wilson. On September 19, 1991, she married Joseph Jenkins, in Logansport, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 2024.
Hermie graduated from Mexico High School in 1955. She worked as a waitress at several restaurants and in the dietary section of Logansport State Hospital for many years before retiring. She was an avid reader, loved doing word search puzzles, and cherished spending time with her family and friends. Hermie was a free spirit and very outgoing. She would help anyone in need and often did. She wasn’t a planner, rarely worried about things, and took life one moment at a time just figuring things out as she went.
Survivors include her children, Jeffery (Becky) Moore, Kellie (Michael) Cloutier, Jill (Brandon) Phillips, and “bonus son” Bob Lay; grandchildren, Michelle Shifflett, Lindsay Moore, Autumn Moore, Shannon (Michael) Fuller, Jayci Cloutier, Trell Hunter, Marley Brannon, Gavin Brannon, and Jaksyn Jenkins; and great-grandchildren, Hermalene Shifflett, Rebecca Shifflett, Sunil (Grace) Christian, Anjali Christian, Maya Christian, Willow Moore, Violet Moore, Stella McKay, Eliot Fuller, Lenix Fuller and Emilio Hunter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Mindy Hancock officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
