Helen M. (Cline) Overmyer, age 103, passed peacefully in her home on November 30, 2022. She was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, to Vern Leo and Verl Leona (Charlton) Cline on April 4, 1919, and grew up in Dunkirk, Indiana. On December 20, 1941, in Hartford City, Indiana, she married Joseph E. Overmyer. Helen was always quick to mention that the ceremony was officiated by Rev. Virgil Brock, who wrote the hymn “Beyond the Sunset.” His wife provided the music for the service. Joe passed away the night before their 60th wedding anniversary, December 19, 2001. Together they raised a family of four sons, while living in Hartford City and then for 40 years, in Bolivar, Missouri. After Joe’s death, Helen returned to Indiana.
For the past 2 years, Helen has made her home with her son, Michael, and his wife, Charlotte, formerly of Muncie and now residents of Kokomo. Her other sons are Patrick, Half Way, Missouri; Greg, Fair Grove, Missouri; and Kevin (Sylvia), Rockport, Texas.
Helen dearly loved her family. Her grandchildren are Lydia (Craig) Standish, Greentown; Amy (Todd) Miller, Kokomo; Sarah Overmyer, Birmingham, England; John Overmyer, Melissa (Bobby) Blanton, Crystal Overmyer, Jason (Brandy) Overmyer, all of Missouri; and Raven-Starr Overmyer, Virginia. There are 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren. Many of her nieces and nephews considered her their favorite aunt, because of her positive attitude and unselfish nature. She was always ready for a new adventure.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Richard, Frank, Clarence, Marian, Georgina, Bettie, and Marjorie.
Helen retired from Teters Floral Products in Bolivar, Missouri, after 25 years of service.
Helen loved to attend worship. In Missouri, she joined Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. After moving back to Indiana, she found a church home wherever she was, Fairview United Brethren Church in Hartford City, High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, and most recently Shiloh United Methodist Church in Kokomo. Her favorite days of the week were Sunday for church, and Wednesday when the family came for dinner!
