Helen L. Herrell, 71, Kokomo, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born March 21, 1945, in Greentown, to John Edward and Edna Ruth (Stanbrow) Colescott.
She graduated from Eastern High School in 1963 and attended Indiana University Kokomo. She worked at Delco Electronics as a tool and die maker for thirty years and had worked for the past seven years at ClubFitness24 and CrossFit Kokomo. She was a member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, UAW Local 292, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Howard County where she was currently serving as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed taking pictures and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her sons, Trent (Julia) Coy, Fishers and Chad Coy, Bloomington, Illinois; granddaughter, Alexa Coy; grandsons, Andy Coy, Liam Coy, Reis Coy and Maxx Coy; siblings, Mary Ellen (John) McCurtain, Nancy (Dwayne) Baldwin, Loretta (Dan) Hylle and Glenn (Dee Ann) Colescott; and half-sister, Marjorie Griner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Colescott; and half-brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Donald) Kendall, Jean (Victor) Roberts, Zane Griner, John Wesley (Nina) Colescott and Lois (Warren) Conway.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2000 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo, with Pastor Jerry Van Auken officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo. An Eastern Star service will be observed at 7 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Evangelical Presbyterian Church for Project Mercy.
