Frederick Austin David, 95, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022. He was born on July 14, 1926 in Howard County. He was the son of Margaret (Shepard) Pulley. He married the love of his life Norma Jean Keyton on September 15, 1947 and she survives.
Frederick based his entire life on loving family, farming and providing. At the age of 18 he was drafted to the United States Army and served in WWII fighting for our freedom on Normandy Beach. He served with the 3rd infantry overseas and his duties included driving ½ ton army trucks and jeeps, hauling personnel and equipment as well as maintaining and keeping vehicles in good working order. He survived and carried this service with pride and humility. Frederick was a gifted mechanic which benefited him greatly as he went on to independently build his own farm that he continued to operate. Frederick successfully farmed tomatoes, wheat, corn, soybeans, and managed numerous varieties of livestock.
Frederick was the epitome of hard work and dedication to family and adored being “Grandad” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Norma Jean; two daughters Nancy Coomer, and Jennifer Smith (Hal) ; granddaughter, Abbee R. Summers (Michael); grandson, Nathan A. Coomer (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Keyton Romero, Kaeden Romero, Kamryn Romero, Harlowe Summers, Nolen Summers, Irelyn Summers, Olivia Coomer, and Owen Coomer.
Frederick was greeted in heaven by his son-in-law Dan Coomer and his beloved granddaughter Aimee McCollum Romero and great grandson, Nelson Frederick Summers. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George Shepard; mother, Margaret Pulley; and two brothers Jack David and Edwin David.
Services celebrating Frederick’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 27, 2022, at Meridian Street Christian Church, 205 N. Meridian Street, Greentown, with Pastor Paul Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 317 Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greentown American Legion, Post 317. Hasler & Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
