Evelyn May DeLano

Evelyn May DeLano, 90, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:06 am, Friday, September 26, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent of Kokomo. She was born on April 7, 1935, in Columbus, OH. She was the daughter of Ethel L. (Isaacs) Kirkpatrick. On June 16, 1979, she married James Richard DeLano who preceded her in death on October 20, 2017.

Evelyn was a 1953 graduate of Kokomo High School. She was an engineering assistant and lab manager of thick film at Delco Electronics for 43 years. She was a member Faith Church of Christ. She was an avid bowler and was a part of the Howard County Bowling Hall of Fame. She loved gardening, reading books, watching the birds and her dog, who was like her companion, Schnapps.

She is survived by her children, Greg (Jill) Ratcliff and Don (Mari) Ratcliff; stepchildren, Pam DeLano, Maria (Manuel) Garcia, Mary (Charles A.) Shaffer, Angela Shaffer, and John DeLano; 32 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, James, she was preceded in death by her parents; stepchildren, James R. DeLano Jr, Rebecca Chavez, and Joseph DeLano; grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Patricia Lynn DeLano, Chris Ratcliff, and Chad Ratcliff.

A funeral service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Faith Church of Christ, 1701 S. Michigan St, Burlington, IN. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 pm until 7 pm Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church of Christ.
