Evelyn Sellers Obituary

Evelyn Eileen Sellers, 81, Greentown, went to see Jesus in her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown.  She was a beloved wife and mother of two sons. She was born February 1, 1941, in the home in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late John Sturgeon and Charlene Mable (Shadley) Cripe.

Evelyn was one of six children, and when she was two years old, her family moved to Young America, IN and she always considered that her hometown.  She attended 1st grade at Young America School.  2nd through 6th grades at Deacon Grade School in Walton, IN.  Her family then moved to Kokomo, IN where she attended Central Middle School and High School, graduating in 1959.

In 1959, she joined the Order of the Eastern Star and was a 63-year member.  She became a baptized believer of Jesus Christ at 10 years old and was an active member in her church and Eastern Star, volunteering at school and in her community.  In 1961, she met the love of her life, and they were married in June of 1962.  After 60 years of marriage, we can give our Lord and Savior all the praise for such a beautiful life.  She enjoyed music, playing cards with friends and volunteering.

Evelyn and her husband Fred helped build churches in the Midwest for 12 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 40 years.

Evelyn is survived by her brothers, Reed (Brigga) Cripe and Sam (Colleen) Cripe; husband, Fredrick William Sellers, Jr; her children, Douglas John Sellers (Lisa) and David William (Kristina) Sellers; grandchildren, Cardin, Reece, Casteel and Cole; sister-in-law, Cel Cripe; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles (Kathleen) Cripe and Jay Cripe; and sister, Mary Beck.

Evelyn’s favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
