Ellen Ann Tate

Ellen Ann (Sells) Tate, 81, of Kokomo, passed away 11:05 pm Wednesday April 30, 2025, at Community Howard Regional Health Hospital in Kokomo. She was born on September 8, 1943, in Richmond, IN, the daughter of the late Michael Jesse and Marie (Baldwin) Sells. On August 9, 1964, she married Manley “Matt” Tate at the First Friends Church in Richmond, IN, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2022.

Ellen was a 1961 graduate of Richmond High School. She received a degree in Pharmacy from Purdue University in 1966. She served as a pharmacist for Union Health Center Pharmacy for 34 years. Next, she worked at Marsh Pharmacy for 7 years until her retirement on October 1, 2005. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, P.E.O. Sisterhood BU Chapter, and was a ZTA alumnae. She was a former member of First Congregational Church in Kokomo. Ellen’s favorite hobbies were traveling, crafting, creating greeting cards, and scuba diving.

She is survived by her son, Manley M. (Gina) Tate; granddaughters, Korrine Tate, Jet Tate; sister, Marci Padgett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Marie Sells; husband, Matt Tate.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm Saturday May 10, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902. Contributions may be made in Ellen’s memory to First Congregational Church in Kokomo or P.E.O. Sisterhood. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
