Edith C. Ritter, 85, formerly of Kokomo, IN passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 in Colorado Springs. She was born December 4, 1933 in Kokomo to Ruth A. Miller and Zimena D. Miller. Edith graduated from Kokomo High School in 1952. She worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company. Edith held many offices within Omega Phi Tau sorority. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the YWCA and volunteer for the Designer Show Home. Edith was instrumental in many of the Class of 1952’s reunions and remained close to her high school friends called the CC’s. She was a long-standing member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kokomo.
Edith was an avid sports fan, with the Chicago Cubs, holding a special place in her heart. She loved the beach, especially Hilton Head Island and Bradenton Beach, and bird watching. Edith had a great sense of humor which we all enjoyed, and she often danced to any music but especially Big Band music.
Edith is survived by her loving husband, John of 60 years, her daughters: Lisa Ritter (Mike Shorkey) of Kokomo, and Susan Wichmann (Stephen) Monument, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren Andrew (Allison) Wichmann of Odenton, MD, Megan Wichmann of Monument, CO, and Brad Wichmann of Boulder, CO. Edith is survived by brother-in-law James Ritter (Sylvia) of Bloomfield CT, brother-in-law John Nimmo of Wellesley, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marilyn Miller, Marge Lytle, and Peg Duggins; sister-in-law, Betty Nimmo; brothers-in-law, Ray Lytle, and O’Neil Duggins; and nieces.
A Requiem Mass be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 602 W. Superior Street, Kokomo, IN 46901. Friends are invited to visit with the Ritter family from 1-2 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org. Stout & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
