Donald Adler Obituary

Donald Edward Adler, 88, Kokomo, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022.  He was born on April 7, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Edward and Ruth Mae (Lehman) Adler.  On December 6, 2003, he married Flora Collins, and she survives.

After graduating from Southwest High School, he moved to Arizona with his parents where he earned a B.S. in mathematics from Arizona State.  He then went on to earn a master’s degree in Physics from UCLA.  Don spent his entire career with Hughes Aircraft Company.  He was proud of his work with NASA on the Surveyor Lunar Lander in the mid 1960’s.  This was the first vehicle to prove that a survivable landing could be accomplished on the moon.  It paved the way for the Apollo series of manned lunar landings.

Of all his accomplishments, Don was most proud of his family. He was married to Jill Turner for 30 wonderful years, enjoying life together in so many ways.  Following her passing, he married Gaylene Gurr, who sadly lost a lengthy struggle with cancer.  Then after moving to Kokomo, he found Flora and they were married. They loved and cared for each other until Don’s passing.  Don was a man of strong Christian faith. He served God for many years in the church, and regularly prayed for his family and friends.

Don is survived by his cherished wife, Flora, of 19 years and her loving family into which he married. He is also survived by a son, David (Lori) Adler of Lake Waynoka, OH; daughter, Dawn (Bob) Cashler of Kalamazoo, MI; as well as five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road with Pastor Jason Grant officiating. Messages of condolence may be left at www.shirleyandstout.com
