David M. Bennett, 77, Kokomo, passed away at 7:46 pm Monday, September 16, 2019, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born December 29, 1942, in Elkins, West Virginia, the son of the late Duard Delmote Bennett & Betty Jean (Kiem) Bennett Kennedy. On February 27, 1968, he married Mary Beth Flemming who preceded him in death July 25, 2017.
David was a 1961 graduate of Elkins High School in West Virginia, and was inducted into the Elkin’s High School Football Hall of Fame. He attended Fairmount State University. He served with the United States Navy earning the rank of Corpsman from 1961-1964 as a medic. He retired from Duke Energy after 41 years as a maintenance technician. David was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and regularly attended the Poor Clares Monastery. David enjoyed his get togethers with the Breakfast group retirees from Duke Energy. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, traveling with his wife, along with spending time with his girls and grandchildren, and going to the casino.
David is survived by his daughters, Ellen (Sean) Clemons, Noblesville, and Erin (Mick) Maple, Kokomo; and grandchildren, Dominic and family, McKenna, Mallory, Brennen, Michael, and Parker.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Durad Bennett.
The family would like to give a special thank you the first responders and the neighbors who looked after him over the years.
Friends are invited to visit with the family Sunday from 12-3 pm at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. A private family service and burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Poor Clares.
