Darvel Edwin “Ed” Harner, 71, of Kokomo, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent in Kokomo. He was born October 17, 1954, in Kokomo, to Darvel E. and Shirley (Smith) Harner. On May 27, 1994, he married Michelle Sumner, in Kokomo, and she survives.
Ed joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era as a cook. Following his military service, he worked at Burger Chef before beginning a career at Chrysler as a troubleshooter for 30 years before retiring on April 30, 2009. Ed enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of UAW Local 1166.
In addition to his wife, Michelle Harner, survivors include his children, Edward (Deanna) Moody, Jason (Megan) Harner, and Brooke-Allison Hines; grandchildren, Coltin Hines, Jacob Harner, Braylon Hines, Gabriella Mraz, Samantha Harner, Darien Moody, Dylan Moody, Danica Moody, Clayton Moody, and Destiny Marn; siblings, Debbi (Tom) Rayles, Janet (Tim) Wooten, and Allen Harner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jake Harner; daughter, Sara Harner; and brother, Charlie Harner.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Myron Miller officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the funeral home.
