Daniel M. “Dan” Gibson, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 8:28 am Sunday, June 19, 2022, at his home. He was born May 30, 1933, in Cave City, Kentucky, the son of the late Blaine & Amelia (Mueller) Gibson. On May 30, 1957, he married Phyllis Morrison who survives.
Dan retired from Delco Electronics after 37 years of service as Supervisor. He served with the United States Navy from 1951-1955 earning the Good Conduct, Korean Service, National Defense and the United Nations Medals. Daniel loved riding his Honda Goldwing and bowling where he was a member of the Kokomo Bowling Hall of Fame.
Along with his wife of 65 years, Phyllis, Dan is also survived by his children, Pamela (Seamus) Hawkins, Jeffrey (Kelly) Gibson, Joe (Maggie) Gibson and James Gibson; grandchildren, Shayla (Jon) Caddell, Brendan Hawkins, Jordyn Gibson, Amber Gibson, Adam Gibson, Daniel (Alexcia) Gibson, Levi Gibson, Jonah Gibson, Kristyn Bitner, Morgan Knox, Molly Bitner, Chad (Brenna) Ort, Eric (Desiree) Johnston, Kelly (Dan) Elliott and Brett (Amber) Johnston, along with 8 great-grandchildren.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Lora Gibson; and 6 siblings.
Funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Ryan Mills officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-5 pm Thursday at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s memory to the Salvation Army or the Lora Sottong Gibson Memorial Nursing Scholarship in care of the Tipton County Foundation.
