Dagna Lynn Wainwright-Lowe-Helvig, 76, Kokomo, passed away at 11:17 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent, Kokomo. She was born February 20, 1950 in Kokomo to James and Beverly (Anthony) Smith. On February 20, 2014 she married Jim Helvig, who survives.
Dagna served the City of Kokomo for 44 years at the senior citizens center. She loved traveling with her husband and son and family, including trips to Florida and cruises. In addition to spending time with family she also enjoyed golfing and played on leagues over the years. Holidays were special times for Dagna. She loved decorating her home inside and out. Many people will miss her outdoor holiday displays. Most of all, she cherished her family and was a loving wife, mom, and the perfect nana and great-nana.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Helvig; son, Chuck (Missy) Wainwright, step-children, Terri (Brian) Piel, Linda (Brent) Whitesell, and Lori (Mike) Dennis; daughter-in-law, Kelly wainwright; grandchildren, Jamie Watson, Michael Burton, Brooke Brown, Kaitlyn Wainwright, Brookelyn Williams, Nicholas Wainwright, Nikki Kizer, Ashleigh Wainwright, Garth McClain, Autumn Piel, Corey Piel, Kristin McFaddin, Seth Whitesell, Lela Whitesell, Blake Hinkle, and Shelby Overdorf; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers, Chris (Debbie) Riffe and Dan (Kim) Smith; sisters, Earlene (Chris) Cooper and Trisha (Rick) Roberts; brothers-in-law, Dave Hardacre and Chuck (Margie) Helvig; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Mike) Dennis; as well as many nieces and nephews she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Smith; mother, Beverly (Earl) Riffe; son, Chris Wainwright; husband, Jack Lowe; great-grandson, Liam Brown; sister, Debbie Hardacre; and her beloved dog, Lucy.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery where her daughter-in-law, Missy, will give a musical tribute. Rev. Michael Carson will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road. Dress casually.
